What is a standard porta potty?
A standard porta potty is a single-stall portable toilet with a holding tank, a toilet seat, a urinal, a roof vent and a lockable door with an occupied sign. A standard porta potty needs no water or power, so it works on jobsites, open land, backyards and parking lots across Columbia.

What comes inside a standard porta potty?
Each standard porta potty from Roy Rental Works comes with a toilet seat and lid, a wall urinal, a toilet paper holder with paper, a hand sanitizer dispenser, a coat hook, a roof vent and a translucent roof for daylight. Units are cleaned, sanitized and deodorized before every delivery.
There is no light inside. For evening events, hang a battery lantern on the coat hook or set the unit near existing lighting.
How big is a standard porta potty, and will it fit through my gate?
A standard porta potty is about 44 inches wide, about 4 feet deep and about 7.5 feet tall. A standard porta potty fits through a backyard gate at least 4 feet wide. The spot should be level and within about 25 feet of where our truck can park.

When is a standard porta potty the wrong choice?
A standard porta potty is the wrong choice when a guest uses a wheelchair, when a public event needs accessible units, or when guests expect to wash hands inside. Pick a wheelchair-accessible unit, add a hand wash station, or move up to a deluxe flushing unit or restroom trailer instead.
| Your situation | Better choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Guest uses a wheelchair or walker | Wheelchair-accessible unit | Ground-level floor and 60-inch turning space |
| Food is served | Standard + hand wash station | Soap and water near the food line |
| Wedding or formal party | Deluxe flushing or trailer | Flush, sink and a nicer look |
| Crew that moves every day | Towable unit | Tows to the next work zone |
How often is a standard porta potty serviced?
Standard porta potties on monthly rentals are serviced once a week. Each service visit pumps the waste tank, cleans and sanitizes the seat, urinal, walls and floor, and restocks toilet paper and sanitizer. Event rentals arrive clean and usually need no service for a one- to three-day event.
Big crews, long hours or summer heat can call for a second weekly visit. See monthly rental servicing and how many units you need.
Standard porta potty questions
Is a standard porta potty clean enough for a family party?
Standard units go out cleaned, sanitized and deodorized, with fresh paper and sanitizer. For a backyard party, place the unit in shade and add a hand wash station if food is served. Many family parties use standard units without complaints.
Can men and women share a standard porta potty?
Men and women share standard porta potties at most events. The urinal is on the back wall and the seat has a lid. For larger events, some hosts label units for men and women with simple signs.
Does a standard porta potty smell?
A serviced standard porta potty has little odor because the tank holds a deodorizing chemical and the roof vent pulls air out. Odor builds when a unit is overused or sits in full sun, so we size the count and service schedule to prevent it.
Can I get a lock for the door?
Standard porta potties have an inside latch with an occupied sign. A hasp for a padlock is available free on request for jobsites or units left on open land.
Can I move the porta potty myself after delivery?
Please do not move a delivered unit. A standard porta potty can tip when walked or dragged, and the tank may spill. Call us and we will reposition it on our next stop.
